HAITI (May 2010)
The 12 January earthquake that hit Haiti would never had the dramatic death toll, if the country had been in a better shape. Unfortunately due to urbanisation, environmental degradadation, lack of leadership and instability, well over 220.000 people lost their lives and reportedly 1,5 million are homeless. Damages and losses are estimated at around 10 billion USDollars.
A recent assessment and evaluation on behalf of a major international organisation in April and May 2010, shows that there is a possibility for recovery in Haiti. 10 different aspects are treated in the report that identifies ways forward for the organisation, enabling it to play a leading role in the recovery of Haiti.
